Basset Hound - Honey - Medium - Adult - Female - Dog
Honey, about one year old, is a Corgi/Bassett Hound mix and a poster-dog for resiliency. She is a very happy, healthy and extremely affectionate dog -- you would never know that she had been thrown out of a truck by her previous owner, but she will always have a visible scar under her neck where he neglected to remove her two choke collars for so long that they became embedded into her skin and had to be surgically removed. (She currently wears a children's neck gator made for skiing to protect her scars while they finish healing). And yet, Honey is amazing?she is so friendly and playful and completely lovable. At first she is wary of strangers (who wouldn't be given what she went through?), and she barks to warn of their arrival at the door, but her wariness quickly turns into love and an eagerness for happy interactions with them (petting, fetching, cuddling) such that they are no longer a stranger to her.
She attaches quickly to her caregivers and follows them around the house to make sure she knows where they are, and she loves to cuddle on laps and feel the security of a warm, kind human next to her. She has tender, caramel-colored eyes that, when focused on you, make you want to melt, and she has an array of strawberry-colored freckles dancing around her nose that make you smile each time you notice them. She very much enjoys playing with other dogs, but she can be a bit needy in the attention department sometimes and has occasionally gotten a little jealous when it isn't her turn for cuddles or treats, so she may prefer to be the only dog in the house (versus the four others that she currently vies for attention with in her foster home). She also gets nervous around unfamiliar movements and sounds (her foster sister's Furby drives her crazy) so older children would be a better fit for her. She plays very well on her own and is often found throwing toys up in the air and fetching them herself, or rolling around on her back in utter delight. In fact, watching this happy girl revel in her new life is both heartwarming and rewarding.
But because of her scar, Honey will need to wear a harness for the rest of her life, and she cannot be confined by an electric fence (she cannot wear the collar), so a fenced-in yard would be ideal (or else lots of leash walking and maybe some trips to the dog park to get her energy out!). She seems quite trainable, though, because she watches her foster mom's every move very intently and is incredibly eager to please. So, if you want a really affectionate and very cuddly sweetheart of a pup, (given the name "Honey" so everyone would know just how sweet she is), we have the special little companion you are looking for. Are you the special, lifelong companion she deserves?
Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue . We are an all-volunteer group, so after submitting your application, if you don't hear back from us within a few days, please e-mail us [email removed] . Be sure to read about the adoption process on our website prior to filling out the application, so you'll know what to expect and fill out all fields on the adoption application or we won't be able to process it. As you can imagine, we are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes and resources for. We do not have a shelter facility and we provide medical care to all of our dogs prior to adoption. All of this is very expensive and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources, so if you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount , we are truly grateful. It is only through your kindness and that of supporters like you that we are "changing lives...one tail at a ti
